Building a House

Well, I said I was going to tell y'll about building a house, so here it is. Be sure it is something you are ready for...cost wise, it's may be more than you expected. Also, it is a lot of work and headaches at times.

First, we drove around and looked at houses we liked - inside for those being built and any already done that we liked. Then we started checking out where we wanted to build. We wanted in a nice subdivision - best choice for us if we have to sell. We don't have kids, but we choose the best school district, which luckily is the area we like best anyway.

We broke it down to 4 subdivisions but finally settled on one. It has a golf course, stables, pool, racketball & tennis courts. It is in the top 100 best places to retire to - probably for the golf. Funny that neither of us plays, or is interested in learning golf! But it's a very nice, upscale place. It has 11 subdivisions within the whole complex.

We choose one that is within the price range we wanted to build. Each division has a range of house prices you must build within. It's quiet, & the houses are nice.

We saw a house that we liked and bid on it, but got outbid. It was almost complete, so we decided to build our own and started looking fo a builder. We found several, but two of the top ones have different cul-de-sacs they are building all the houses on. We liked the lot better where we decided to build -it is a large corner lot and faces the 15 hole of golf course and a small pond.
We bought the house plan for the house we bid on, and made some changes.

We loved the turret in the front, which is sitting area for master bedroom. We added another turret in back off the breakfast area. And we opened up the area between kitchen & living room and put a wrap bar.

Then we started meeting with the builder. This was time consuming because we always had to make sure our real estate agent was there, the builder, the real estate agent that the builder deals with, and me and Simon. Lots of discussions about what we want.

OK, that's it for now. Continue this later. The photos I posted didn't come through here, so if you want to see them go to myspace blog - www.myspace.com/myranour.
