Review for FINDERS KEEPERS

I just got through reading Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair. Enjoyed it very much.

Trilby ran goods through the star routes, sometimes smuggled them too. She had a delapiated ship, and an old robot who talked too much, but she liked it that way. Independence. But then her world changed drastically when she set down on a desolate planet for repairs.

The man she dragged on board was tall and hunky. When he awoke, he also turned out to be very bossy, basically acting like he had a ram-rod up his butt. At first, Trilby questioned her judgement in rescuing him from the wrecked ship where she had found him. Maybe she should have left him as dinner for the vampire snakes?

But, while trying to keep her ship running, they began to become friends, and lovers.
Then the Imperial fleet interfered. They were involved in diplomatic drama, with spy activity and the scary Sko seemed set to overtake Imperial space. And somehow Trilby was right in the middle of the intrigue. Someone wanted her navigational charts and were willing to kill to obtain them.

To top it off, she found out Rhis was not who he said he was. She was pissed! She felt used. How could one of the highest ranking officers in the fleet be involved with a lowly trader captain? How could she have fallen in love again, after being recently betrayed?

Tivahr, known as Tivahr The Terrible was used to being treated with fear and respect. Then he ran across a bold, beautiful, sassy trader captain. Her ragged ship raised his eyebrows, and her ancient robot got on his nerves, but he was enchanted with Trilby. His guard slipped, and surprisingly, he found himself feeling emotions he wouldn't have thought himself capable of.
He hated using Trilby to help catch the traitor in their midst. As time passed, he found that he desired her arms about him as much, or perhaps more, than his Captaining the Fleet. But would she want him once she found out who he really was...or what he was?

If you like s/f romances, I highly recommend this book. My only problem was the many names of characters and the different factions involved. Maybe it's just me, but I kept having to flip around to remember who was who.

I met Linnea at RT last year, and she is a lovely lady, with a broad smile and sparkle in her eyes, which tell me she loves life!

Night at the Museum

Saw it last week. A cute movie, and definitely one I'd recommend for family & kids. Course, me, Simon and my brother are all way past childhood, but we still enjoyed it!!

I don't want to give any spoilers. But if you love the idea of things at a museum coming to life, like I did, you'll get off on watching this movie. We loved the T-rex acting like a dog. Cute.

THe 3 older guards who were retiring were a surprise element. Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney (man he's getting old, thought he had truly reited:), and Bill Cobbs.

The explanation for why the statues, etc., in the museum came alive, was adequate to me as a movie goer. The "rescue" scene of the tablet was very cool. Ben Stiller going from "I have to work here" attitude to loving it, was nice.

Hey, I would have loved working this job myself, even if the things didn't come alive. But that would have been too awesome. Being able to talk to Roosevelt, who Robin Williams played with his usual charm, and other historical figures would be too much.

Course, having the T-rex, a mammoth, and various safari creatures running amuck, would be tough. But if Ben had listened in the first place, he would have known how to handle them. He learned the hard way, but then was proud of himself for getting the characters in control, and also teaching them to get along with one another.

Sometimes we feel like we wasted our money going to a movie, few of them "wow" us like Jurassic Park, Nemo, Shrek, or Terminator II. This was one of those that we felt we did not blow our money, but was not a wow factor.

Blurb for Some Like it Hot:

For Tony and Jennifer, life is good — well, almost all of it. They've been married three years and love each other deeply. But their sex life suffers when Tony receives a promotion and Jennifer starts her own design business. Once their lovemaking had been wild and steamy, now it's often quick and boring. They're stuck in a rut and don't know how to get out. When Jennifer shares her concerns with her best friend, she is intrigued by Liz's suggestion of an erotic, highly sexual challenge — use increasingly exhibitionistic games to infuse their relationship with the steamy desire and spark that's missing. In order to put the searing heat back into their marriage, Jennifer and Tony must overcome their trepidation to go along with the challenge, but neither knows what is in store for them. An encounter in a public hot tub seems risky enough, but then other, bolder challenges follow. But the rewards for such risky behavior are hot. In a sexual and emotional journey, they rediscover not only the missing spark, but the reasons why they love each other.

Excerpt: Note - I marked out one word because I don't know if anyone under 18 can read these blogs.

Dinner at Elizabeth and Robert’s house was delicious as usual. Shrimp cocktails, then filet mignon as the main entrée, followed by a chocolate mousse to die for. Of course the cook prepared the meal, but Jennifer wasn’t complaining. They had retired to the comfortable family room for coffee when Liz brought the subject up, and bluntly at that.

“So. Jen says you two need to spice up your sex life.”

Tony had just taken a sip of coffee and gulped it down at her remark. “Argh.” He opened his mouth and fanned it with his hand.

Liz giggled. “Sorry.”

The sharp look from Tony’s eyes said Liz wouldn’t be forgiven that easily. He turned those penetrating brown eyes on her. “What have you been telling Elizabeth?”

Tony and Rob always called their friends by their proper names, while she and Liz used the shorter versions as nicknames. Although a US citizen now, Rob was English by birth. She loved his accent, and his formal way of conversing only added to his charm. Sometimes she wished Tony would loosen up a bit though.

“Yes, Jennifer, do tell.” Robert’s tone was teasing.

She turned to Rob, sure Liz had filled him in on all the gory details. Setting her cup down firmly, she caught her husband’s eyes. “All I said was the truth—that we’ve gotten into a rut due to our jobs.”

“Oh, that’s all.” Tony folded his arms and leaned into the couch. “Just some stimulating dinner conversation.”

“Come on, old man,” Rob interrupted, coming to her defense. “It’s a common problem for married couples and it just slipped out during girl talk.”

Tony gave them each a hard look and then shrugged. “Okay, as long as the subject is dropped.”
“Well, as a matter of fact, Rob and I were discussing different ways to overcome this problem.”
Tony’s lips flat-lined and he stared straight ahead. He was not a happy camper. Her husband was a very private person.

Jennifer’s eyes flitted around the room—anywhere but at Tony’s stiff body. It was a comfortable space, furnished in what she called safari-style, with a leather couch and chairs you could sink into. Fake animal furs draped over the furniture, adding to the coziness of the room.

Liz’s next words drew her back to the conversation. “We thought what you two need is a challenge, something to get the steam back.”

“Oh, black leather and whips,” Tony replied in a slow drawl.

Jennifer winced at his phrase, but Liz only chuckled and Rob laughed.

“Those certainly couldn’t hurt…but no, we had something a little less intense in mind.” Liz smiled wickedly.

“What?” Jennifer asked, too curious for one of Liz’s dramatic pauses.

Her friend picked up her cup and took a minute sip before answering, slipping in her pause anyway. “One simple way to infuse excitement into a relationship is to play exhibitionist games.”
Tony snorted. “You mean Robert is going to drag me to a strip club.” His tone was sarcastic. “Not interested.” At Rob’s and Liz’s merry expressions, he added, “Or even better, set Jennifer up to dance for me.”

Rob burst out laughing again and Liz covered her giggles with her hand.

“Not a bad idea.” Liz coughed into her hand. “But what we had in mind were games that any normal couple can play, just depends on how far you want to go.”

“Such as?” Tony’s voice was totally bored, although his posture expressed interest by him leaning forward.

“We’re not going to give the whole plan away, but the first challenge would be for you to play around in a public Jacuzzi.”

“How much is playing around?” Jen asked nervously. An image of her and Tony kissing and stroking each other in a hot tub while people stood around them, popped into her head. Unbelievingly, her blood heated and her cheeks flushed.

“Kissing, caressing.” One of Liz’s pauses followed. “But to win the challenge… How do I put this delicately?”

“There has to be a home run,” Rob interrupted.

Tony laughed, but it was not a merry sound. “I can just see us banging away in front of our neighbors.”

Liz jabbed her husband with her elbow. “It doesn’t have to be a full session, just as long as Tony’s " xx" slips inside you.”

She stared at Jennifer.

“Perhaps we should add oral sex as an option,” Rob said.

Nodding, then licking her lips in an exaggerated fashion, Liz purred, “Agreed, we’ll add eating as a second way to fulfill the challenge.”

Tony frowned at her friend. He considered body talk in front of others in bad taste. She smiled. Liz was just tired of mincing around the subject.

“That sounds like it is beyond a little game playing,” she commented.

Liz shrugged. “You can pick the time and place. Shoot, you can go in when everyone is asleep, but it’s that element of danger we’re after. You could be seen.”

“And then what?” Tony asked.

“Each weekend we’ll give you an assignment. The chance of exposure will get a little more risky with each one.” She glanced at her husband. “We thought maybe seven times should do the trick.”

“It will be up to you whether you play the game once or twice during the weekend.” Rob grinned. “You’ll be too busy to get involved in this during the work week.”

“But no sex except during the game time.” Liz gave them both a serious look.

Jennifer turned to Tony, who raised an eyebrow at her. “I was starting to think this sounded fun, but no sex for six weeks!” Her voice rose and she gripped her hands together.

“You can have sex during your games…depends on how far you’re willing to push the envelope.”
“And the challenge could be as short as four weeks if you choose to participate Saturday and Sunday,” Rob added.

“The whole thing sounds ridiculous.” Tony frowned.

“Just think,” Liz paused, “not having sex except during the game will make you want each other even more.”

“That’s not what I meant.” Tony ran his hand through his hair. “It’s the challenge that’s ridiculous.”

Jennifer’s insides went mushy at the thought of playing sexual games. Suddenly, all doubts fled her mind. She wanted this.

“Is it ridiculous for us to work at putting the heat back into our sex life?” Jennifer’s tone came out more challenging than she intended.

Her husband turned toward her. “You want to do this?”

“Yes.”

The clock on the mantel was the only sound that pierced the silence for long seconds.
