Gone for few days/dad died Current mood: contemplative

I'll be leaving early Sunday morning to drive to Texas for my dad's funeral. See previous post for details. If anyone wants to talk to me, I'll be back probably by Weds.

We are almost settled in our new home. Most of the boxes are unpacked, we started putting up pictures, and even got the Christmas tree put up last night. Ornaments will have to wait to I return. Still curtains to hang too.

I had hoped to get back on track with my writing this Monday and get back on the lists some. But you can never tell what curve ball life will throw you.

I'll just have to play it by ear when I return, but I do hope to get back on my feet after the holidays for sure. I haven't even bought my first present yet!!

Simon and I are going to our first party tonight, one thrown by the neighborhood for someone moving. They seem to be a great bunch, there are 14 (?) houses in the cul de sac and everyone is freindly. We've met quite a few neighbors already and would like to get acquainted with everyone.

So in spite of the fact that things are sad right now and I'm getting up really early tomorrow, I want to go tonight. I miss the old days when you knew your neighbors. Since we move so often we're lucky if we know one neighbor.

I don't want to be a party pooper or have a sad face, so I'm hoping to put on my best spirits face and have a pleasant time socializing. I do not wish to tell everyone my dad just died, because all the kind words which I'd expect to follow, will get me crying again. Keep your fingers crossed!
